Hanetuki The game of battkedore and shuttlecock; the traditional Japanese version of badminton, played during the New Year holidays. The shuttlecock is mede up of hard tiny ball of wood and several colores cock feathers stuck into it. The battledore is also mede of wood; one side is usually decorated elaborately with an embossed picture made of cloth portraying Kabuki actors or the like, and the game of battledore and shuttlecock enjoyed by kimono-clad girls is typical traditional scene during the New Year holidays. (*) All these pictures are made by cutting figures out from Japanese Paper (Washi) with a blade. |
